Our founder Mr. Tan Teik Fuang started selling chendul at a humble stall located at Penang Road in 1936. He ensured that each bowl of chendul was prepared diligently and full of love. Paired with his humble and friendly service, his stall quickly became a local favourite. As his customers slurped away at his delicious chendul, he found content and joy as he saw the smiles on their faces. It was then that he knew what simple happiness his chendul could offer to people. Fast forward today, Penang Chendul still embodies what our founder believed in and we’re living its legacy.

OUR HISTORY
Over 80 Years Of Heritage
1936
Humble beginning, spreading happiness one bowl at a time. It was a simple chendul stall located by the roadside along Lebuh Keng Kwee – our founder had extraordinary passion and vision.
1940s - 1960s
Our sweet and refreshing shaved-ice dessert slowly became a local favourite. Our founder continued to give his best, bringing the quality of his chendul to greater heights. It soon became a family-owned business as his children began participating in strengthening the brand.
1970s - 1980s
By 1984, the brand was officially known as Penang Road Famous TeoChew Chendul. Improving on the business model to make our chenduls more accessible, we began expanding via outlets.
1990s - 2000s
The brand has not changed, our goal was still to produce the best and freshest chendul. In addition, we innovated some Penang favourites which quickly became favourites to many – especially our assam laksa and rojak. Together with our chendul, they were known as the Penang Trio.
2010s - Today
A family-owned business that stood the test of time, and still thinking of innovative ways to make life happier and sweeter – the brand is now known as Penang Chendul. Introducing new business models, we hope to make our Penang delicacies more accessible to many and we wish to continue bringing simple happiness to all.
